Govt to ease ban on property registration

Govt to ease ban on property registration

The Times of India

Bangalore: The government order relaxing the two-month-old ban imposed on registration of properties across the state is likely to be issued on Monday, infrastructure minister P.G.R. Sindhia said.

Sindhia told the legislative council that the order will comprise a fresh set of guidelines regarding earmarking places where the ban can be withdrawn.

The government had maintained that the ban was imposed to prevent cheating of poor land owners by land developers. The decision had come in for flak from some business groups and individuals, who claimed that not permitting conversion of agricultural land for non-agricultural purpose was putting genuine land sellers and buyers to hardship.

“Many objections have been raised to the ban. A committee comprising the secretaries of urban development and revenue departments has been constituted to examine the representations made in this regard. If necessary, we will make amendments to the Act itself,’’ Sindhia said.

Coordination committee: Sindhia said a state-level coordination committee has been formed to check encroachments and misuse of government land.
